Experience
Tim Schreiber is a versatile disputes attorney who represents clients in international arbitration and state court proceedings as well as in various types of alternative dispute resolution proceedings. His practice focuses on the aerospace, automotive, energy oil & gas, foreign investment and technology sectors. He also frequently represents clients from the banking/financial services, defence and engineering sectors. Tim is a leading figure in the resolution of international disputes in Eastern and Southeastern Europe, where he has advised and represented various local governments and leading industrial companies in commercial and investment arbitrations for more than 15 years. He has been recommended as a dispute resolution lawyer for many years in various rankings, including Who’s Who Legal/Lexology, JUVE, Best Lawyers and Leaders League. Tim represents parties in German and English and is fluent in French.
Arbitration
Tim Schreiber is an arbitration specialist who has conducted dozens of arbitrations before various arbitral institutions. He is active in both commercial and investment arbitration and represents clients in arbitration-related court and in enforcement proceedings. His main area of practice here are joint venture and project disputes (often involving states or state-owned enterprises), post‑M&A proceedings and longterm supply contracts. In 2019, he was recognised by Best Lawyers as one of the 5 “Lawyers of the Year” for international arbitration in Germany. Tim is a graduate of the London School of International Arbitration at Queen Mary University of London and a lecturer for arbitral law at the University of Frankfurt am Main. He also acts as an arbitrator.
Litigation
Tim Schreiber has pleaded complex commercial disputes before German civil courts, e.g., mass actions following alleged breaches of ad-hoc disclosure obligations, directors’ and officers’ liability cases (including in relation to ABS acquisitions prior to the financial crisis), proceedings regarding cum-ex transactions, and antitrust proceedings. However, the majority of his civil litigation practice relates to long-term purchase- or service agreements in an international environment and disputes following M&A activities. He also assists banks or litigation funders in asserting their rights in proceedings for interim relief and enforcement proceedings.
Mediation and other alternative dispute resolution procedures
The amicable settlement of disputes – including through mediation or structured negotiations – is a particular focus of Tim Schreiber’s practice. He has assisted clients not only in numerous settlements, but also in the mediated settlement of complex legal disputes, some of which involved very high amounts in dispute. Due to his outstanding achievements in Litigation and ADR, Tim was recognised by Best Lawyers as one of the 6 “Lawyers of the Year” for Dispute Resolution in Germany in 2018.
